Micron paint studio

Paint correction, ceramic coating and protection film for cars that are kept. Kramerville, Johannesburg.

Your clear coat is about 40 microns thick. A hair is about 70. We measure every panel before we touch it.

  1. The car, as everyone sees it.
  2. One door under the lamp, as we see it.
  3. Closer, the colour is metal flake held under a clear coat.
  4. The paint, cut through. Everything we do happens on the clear coat, the top 40 microns.

Closer, the colour is metal flake held under a clear coat.

  3. The paint cut through under a microscope: steel, e-coat, primer, the green colour coat and the clear coat, with a hair resting on top.

Your paint is thinner than a hair

A factory finish is about 105 microns from the metal to the gloss, and only the top 40 is clear coat. Everything we do happens inside that layer, or on top of it.

We level about 3 microns of clear coat

Drawn to scale, in microns. A micron is a thousandth of a millimetre.

We wash, decontaminate and measure every panel, then machine polish the clear coat level until the swirls and fine scratches are gone. Usually about 3 microns comes off, and never more than the readings allow.

Swirls only show under a lamp

This bonnet came in looking clean in daylight. Move across it to correct it.

A green bonnet under one inspection lamp, its clear coat full of circular swirl marks.

Swirls are fine scratches in the clear coat from brushes, sponges and dry towels. They don't wash out; they are polished level.

Inspections are free and take about 40 minutes. We measure every panel, show you the readings under the lamp, and give you a price before any work.
